Epi-response,

Case Study

Epilepsy awareness campaign

Epi-response is about keeping nightclubs safe and fun for everyone by making it easy and engaging to learn how to respond to epileptic seizures. We're focusing on Norwegian youths aged 15-24, spreading awareness about epilepsy through an app, website, and social media. We aim to give young people the knowledge they need to help out if someone has a seizure, making nights out safer for everyone.

Challenge

Epi-response is not just a company but a beacon of knowledge and empowerment. We are among the first to develop an app that provides accessible information about responding to epileptic seizure, specifically designed for youths. Society’s lack of information about epilepsy is a problem, but we are here to change that. Enabling young people to respond to a seizure and educating them about the condition, we are ensuring that public spaces are safer for everyone, including nightclubs.

Result

Drawing on my design and research expertise, I developed a solution to create an emergency app, informative website, and social media platform to reach out to our target market.

Epi-response will ensure individuals with epilepsy can feel safer in public spaces by knowing that members of the general public understand how to help them if a seizure occurs.

As a graphic designer, I needed to ensure the brand identity was consistent across all design platforms. I illustrated and animated a brain to make the project more engaging for youth and added this to the emergency app and social media post. This was a crucial stage to ensure that Epi-response stood out from its competitors and showed who I am as a designer.

The brain symbolizes an epileptic seizure, providing a visual representation of where and how epilepsy occurs. By incorporating an animated brain, the brand becomes more engaging and informative, helping the audience better understand epilepsy and its effects.

Throughout the design process, I have learned different ways to test whether or not the design is effective. I have also expanded my knowledge of Adobe After Effects and become more comfortable using this software.

Iterative user testing was conducted in all phases of the project to ensure that the App, website and social media would translate and be effective in a real life scenario.

My role

My role in the project has been to craft the design strategy, visual identity, service interface app and communication platforms, Instagram and TikTok. This involved a comprehensive process of research, creativity, user testing and refinement to develop a brand experience that resonates with our target audience and a solution that effectively addresses the issue at hand.

The project was guided by the constraints of ensuring transparent and accessible information on seizure response, explicitly focusing on the contexts where seizures are likely to occur. These constraints were crucial in shaping the project, ensuring our efforts were directed toward the most relevant and impactful areas.

Conclusion

The project focuses on making an impact and spreading life saving awareness about how to respond to an epileptic seizure. Throughout the design process, I have expanded my creativity and strategic thinking by finding innovative ways to present a unique medical emergency app focusing on how to respond to epileptic seizures. It’s the first of its kind. This project has demonstrated my capabilities and passion for UX/UI design, showcasing my ability to deliver a strong, unique, and essential solution for Epi-response.
